How Kate Tamed Owen

Has the Butterscotch Stallion retired? Until very recently, Owen Wilson was a regular guest at the Playboy Mansion.

"He was like a kid in a candy store with all those half-dressed women walking around," said a source. "He'd have a drink in his hand at all times. He was there to party like a frat boy." The source did add, however, that the actor — who earned his colorful nickname because of his studly ways and golden locks — stayed out of the grotto, the mansion's fabled swimming pool. Why? "I think he didn't want the chlorine to ruin his highlights!"

But that's the old Owen; the new Owen runs up and down California's punishing 150-plus Santa Monica Stairs, has cut out junk food — and has cut way back on the late nights! And it's paying off. "His six-pack abs are back," says a source, "and he looks great!"

So what's motivating the Wedding Crashers star? Two words: Kate Hudson. "Owen was notorious for being the life of the party and being the last one to leave a good time," the source says. But since Kate hooked up with her You, Me and Dupree co-star after she split with husband of almost six years, Chris Robinson, "Owen's been doing his best to walk the straight and narrow and follow her lead in terms of lifestyle. He's eating lunches at places like Baja Fresh [a chain of Mexican restaurants that serve healthier fare] and he's cut way back on the booze — although he and Kate occasionally share a bottle of wine with dinner."
