Tom & Katie: His & Hers Houses!

Despite Tom Cruise's reported attempts to keep Katie Holmes under his thumb, his 28-year-old wife may now be fighting back! While away from their high security Beverly Hills compound to shoot her new film, Mad Money, Katie is insisting on renting a home closer to the cast and crew, even though Tom objects, say insiders on the Shreveport, La., set. And now that she's got some distance from her controlling husband, insiders say she's been getting closer with her handsome Mad Money costar, Adam Rothenberg, on and off camera.

A HOME OF HER OWN
When she moved to Louisiana in April to film her first movie since marrying Tom, Katie set up house in Southern Trace, a posh neighborhood in Shreveport near other cast and crew members. But before she'd even gotten properly settled, the buzz is that Tom — who has been jetting back and forth from L.A. to visit — insisted his wife move into another more secure and private home in a gated community far from the set. While a rep for Cruise denies Katie has a separate house, sources say when Cruise leaves to fly back to L.A., she moves back to Southern Trace to be closer to the cast.

Besides having security concerns, insiders say Tom doesn't want to be lumped in with the whole movie crew. "He wants Katie and Suri to be away from everyone!" reveals one insider. "Not only has he apparently rented the second house in the North Cross section of Cross Lake [another posh neighborhood 20 minutes from Southern Trace], but he's also rented out the houses on either side to make sure they have their privacy."
