Violet Anne Garner Affleck Baptized

Members of Charleston's Christ Church United Methodist got a surprise gift when Hollywood couple Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck showed up unannounced at the church's Christmas Eve service.

The couple's 1-year-old daughter, Violet Anne, was baptized along with her cousin, Alex, who is a few months younger, at the Quarrier Street church Sunday morning. Lead pastor Randy Flanagan believes it was the first time the couple and their daughter had attended his church together. Garner's parents, Bill and Pat, are longtime members of Christ Church United Methodist.

Flanagan knew in advance the A-list couple was going to pay his church a visit. But no real precautionary measures were taken to prevent fans and media from swarming the place of worship. The service went on as planned, and even some churchgoers did not notice Garner and Affleck until their child's baptism near the end of the service.

Others who heard they were there may have peered around, trying not to ignore the associate pastor's sermon, "Go tell it on the Mountain." "They just came to church," Flanagan said early today. "We were able to celebrate the baptism for two children in the church. It was a very special celebration. I can say that about every baptism at the church. It's a special privilege for every single child we baptize."
